Wedding Stationery: How To Choose The Right Invitations For You
Your wedding stationery will set the scene for your celebration, so you want to make sure it’s perfect. No idea where to start? We’ve got the ultimate guide to choosing your wedding invitations…
Choosing the right invitations for your wedding day is an essential part of the planning journey. Your stationery will set the scene for your celebration, while offering your guests a subtle hint of the tone, feel and theme for your special day. They also provide your guests with those all-important details about where and when your wedding is, in a subtly stylish way. Understandably, you want to make sure your invites are the perfect fit, so don’t underestimate the importance of choosing the right ones.
Choosing the right invitations for your wedding day is an essential part of the planning journey.
It can be difficult to know where to start. There are so many designs, styles and types of paper to choose from. It can also be tricky to know what to include on your invitations, how much information is required and when you should be sending them out.
Feeling slightly frazzled already? Don’t fret, we’ve created the ultimate guide to your wedding invitations.
First things first, gather as many ideas as possible for your wedding invitations. You can find inspiration absolutely everywhere you look, whether that’s Pinterest, magazines, real weddings and even things like fabrics.
Don’t feel the need to rush…
Take your time to find the right stationer who you feel suits you both as a couple. Take all of your ideas to them and they’ll be able to start working on a design that you love.
You may well fall in love with a design from their collection or you may fancy something a little more bespoke and personal – the choice is yours!
There are so many styles of wedding invitation out there now too and couples are getting incredibly creative. From minimalist acrylic cards to embossed stationery, paper adorned with golden foiling to postcards, you really will be spoilt for choice!
Make sure that your chosen design is a reflection of your style, theme and colour scheme. For instance, if you’re dreaming of a botanical-inspired celebration, consider using green wreath motifs on your designs. If you’re having an ultra-luxurious affair, opt for thick card tied with velvet ribbon and a personalised stamp.
You want to make sure that your choice of stationery ties in effortlessly with your wedding day, almost creating a ‘brand’. We suggest sending out your Save the Date Cards around a year before the wedding. This will give your guests time to put the date in their diary. The earlier you send them out, the more likely you are to have all of your loved ones there.
Then it’s onto the wedding invitations themselves
Once you’ve sent out your initial Save the Date cards, it’s time to start thinking about the important details that you want to include on your invitations.
Will you be including a separate details card, including information about nearby hotels, taxis or directions? Will you send out an RSVP card or will it be online-based? Being organised is key, as there is a lot to think about.
Around 4 – 6 months ahead of your wedding day is the perfect time to start sending out your invitations. This will give your guests enough time to plan and it’ll allow for them to return their RSVPs. Which can often take longer than expected so be warned!
Make sure that your chosen design is a reflection of your style, theme and colour scheme.
With just 2 months to go until the big day (eek), you will need to start finalising your guest list. And that often means chasing those last few RSVPs. This is when you can begin designing your seating plan, place settings and general ‘on the day’ stationery – all of which can only be completed when you know exactly who will be attending. We strongly recommend keeping the same design throughout your stationery, from the Save the Date cards to the Order of Service. This will ensure that everything looks coordinated and sophisticated.
