The five sofa designs you want to know about
Choosing the right sofa for your home is one of the hardest things to do. Not just because of the amount of sofa designs available, but because it’s more often than not a very expensive piece of furniture that will stay with you for years to come. So here are my top five sofas you need to know about.
Sofas are expensive. And because they are so expensive, we tend to keep them with us for a very long time. So choosing the right sofa, that can grow with you is actually one of the hardest things to do. With so many different sofa designs available, I’d thought I do a roundup of my top five to help you with your purchase.
So if you are new to the sofa market, and aren’t really too sure what you’re looking for. Then these are the top five sofa designs that you want to know about before making a decision. Starting with my very favourite sofa that I have in my own house. That isn’t just a sofa, but also a sofa bed!
1. The Duette Sofa Bed from Furl, my personal favourite that I have in my own home. This is perfect for those tight for space, but wanting a proper bed for guests to stay.
With spaces getting smaller, and with house prices (particularly in London) out of reach of so many, we often end up in property smaller than we might like. But this doesn’t change the fact that we still have family and friends that would like to visit. And for us to have the opportunity to invite them to stay over.
As lots of you will know, for the past three years I’ve been living in a two bedroomed flat. We are actually incredible lucky to have two bedrooms, one which is actually used as a spare room. But with an incredibly close family on my side, they visit often. So we needed to invest in more than just a sofa for the living room.
Furl (who I actually work with and have done for many years) are the VERY best provider of sofa beds in the UK. And I don’t just say that because I work with them. The sofa designs are incredibly comfortable, but the best thing about them is that the beds are proper beds.
They are by no means cheap. But if you are in need of a really comfortable spare bed, that doesn’t take up an entire room. And is also a very stylish sofa, then these ones are for you. I have the Duette Medium 3 Seater Sofa Bed and it’s upholstered in Kirkby Smooth Graphite Velvet with Ash piping. And mine cost £2,820.00.
2. One of the most inviting sofa designs there is, The Montague Collection from Sweetpea and Willow. Perfectly complimenting modern interiors.
Not only do sofas have to look great, they also need to be inviting and comfortable to sit on. This second sofa is what I’d choose for my home if I didn’t need that extra bed.
Comfortable sofa designs
One of my favourite Interior shops, Sweetpea and Willow recently increased their range of handmade sofas in London. And their Montague Range is the perfect balance of modern and chic. Suiting both a new build home or home with period features.
As they are all made to order, you select the size, fabric and colour that you’d like. For a medium 3-seater in a House Velvet, the sofa costs £1,670.00. But of course this price varies depending on the options you choose.
What’s also amazing about Sweetpea and Willow is that they allow you to supply your own fabric. So if you can’t find anything from their range that you love, you can order you own and have it sent to them. Which really does mean that you can create the sofa of your dreams.
Sweetpea and Willow have a showroom based in Isleworth that is well worth a visit if you are seriously considering going for one of their sofas. (They also have the most amazing coffee bar too!).
3. For those with a more rustic, country style - you simply cannot beat the Isaac Sofa from sofa.com.
Modern and chic isn’t to everyones tastes though. And sometimes homes need something a little more rustic. For that country style you simply cannot beat this next style from Sofa.com.
The perfect country sofa design
The Isaac Sofa from Sofa.com is just absolutely perfect for those with a home based in the country, with more of a rustic style. The loose covers also make them incredibly practical for keeping them clean. Something you might need with country walk, muddy boots or dirty paws.
Similarly to the previous sofa I mentioned, this sofa is also made to order. And so you have size and fabric options to choose from. For the three seater sofa (that comes out a little larger than the previous two), in a linen fabric that suits the sofa best. You would be looking at a price of around £1,640.00.
Although again just like the others, this price does vary and is completely dependant on the choices you make. Sofa.com also offer an excellent free sample service. So be sure to get a couple of fabric options sent to you before making any final decisions.
4. The Lazytime Plus Corner sofa from Camerich is one of the only L-Shaped sofas that I actually like.
Now for that perfect L-Shaped sofa, seeing as so many of us love a good L-Shape. I actually find this shape of sofa incredibly annoying in room layouts. As they tend to waste so much space. But I do have to admit that if you find the right one, they look amazing. And who doesn’t want to put their feet up after a long day of work, that the ‘L’ so easily allows us to do.
There are very few L-Shaped sofas that I like out on the furniture market. But I do love the Lazytime Plus Corner Sofa from Camerich. As I find it’s one of the only sofa designs that looks substantial and not flimsy. Slightly higher price point than the other sofas, the Lazytime is £3,590.00 upholstered in a Charcoal Linen in the Small Corner size.
5. Not the comfiest sofa in the world, but definitely the most stylish. The Eichholtz La Perla Sofa from Lux Deco really will wow in any room design.
And last but not least, one of the most stylish sofa designs I ever did see. And for those that are a little like me and prefer style over comfort (as it’s not the most comfortable sofa in the world) then this one is for you. Oh and with slightly more money to splash!
I’m not sure I’m really selling it here, but the Eichholtz La Perla Sofa in Grey Velvet from Lux Deco is absolutely stunning. But with a price tag of £3,385.00, and as I said not the comfiest sofa in the world, you really do have to love the design to go for this one.
So many sofa designs are really ugly, and this one is doesn’t even come close to that. So for the style savvy, that perhaps have space for more than one sofa, this looks great again every interior backdrop.
And there you have it – my top five favourite sofa designs, that I feel really are a must see before making any big purchases. And if none of them are for you – hopefully I’ve at least given you some inspiration. Or pointed you in the direction of some of the very best places to shop sofas on the UK market.
